Plasticity-induced hydrogen desorptions associated with hydrogen-assisted martensitic transformation and deformation twinning in austenitic stainless steels

The hydrogen desorption behaviors of the SUS304 and SUS316L austenitic stainless steels during deformation at ambient temperature were investigated using a tensile test machine in vacuum chamber equipped with mass spectrometer. Obvious was detected only steel, which exhibited distinct martensitic transformation. Because rate decreased when stopped, significant factor causing transformation-induced an increase martensite fraction plastic deformation. Furthermore, promoted both transformations to ε α′, assists desorption. These results indicate presence synergistic interactions between uptake/diffusion In contrast, steel showed no transformation hydrogen-assisted twinning. No observed This result indicates that twinning has effect on diffusion/desorption.
